AR in Accounting?

No, not Accounts Receivable... Augmented Reality.
I recently celebrated my 38th birthday, and my wife and kids surprised me with a Meta Quest 3S. So far, we've mostly used it for games — boxing matches that leave me sweating and intense cowboy duels against real opponents that make me wish I had quicker reflexes.
One of the coolest features of the Quest 3S is its cameras. They allow for mixed reality, blending the virtual with the real world. It's wild to see your actual surroundings layered with digital elements — almost like living in a sci-fi movie.
But being the accountant I am, I started wondering if this thing could be useful beyond just a fun distraction. The Meta Quest has a remote desktop connection option and something called Meta Link. I'm not even sure which would be better. My laptop at home is still running Windows 10 and doesn't have the right graphics card (or something like that), so maybe I'll give it another shot when I finally upgrade my setup.
It got me thinking — could augmented reality actually change how we work in accounting? Imagine a virtual workspace where you could have multiple monitors floating around you in 3D, analyzing financials without toggling windows. What if client meetings could happen in a shared virtual space that actually felt collaborative, rather than staring at another Zoom screen? Could it make us more productive, more engaged, maybe even happier at work?
I don't have the answers, just ideas. For now, I'll keep throwing virtual punches and trying to outdraw other people in cowboy duels. But who knows — maybe one day, I'll be sorting through spreadsheets in the metaverse.
Got thoughts on how emerging tech like AR could reshape accounting and office work?
Or do you want to work with a firm that's always thinking a step ahead?
